What's your fav player for DivX 4 playback?

I've stuck to the playa, it seems to do the job ok... Are there any better alteratives out there?

1) multi audio support (vital for my anime rips!)
2) subtitle support
3) WinAmp DSP plugins support (can make beautiful 3D effekts and so...)
4) PlayList support
5) very configurable

BSplayer or ZoomPlayer for right now. They seem to be the only players that don't give me AC3 playback problems. However the new PowerDivx4 that will be released later should kick all the players booty :D

I still use WMP most of the time. I will occasionally use something else if I need to choose the audio stream. But I would always rather watch a movie in the native language with subtitles whenever possible!

BSPlayer was kinda flaky but Zoom seems pretty good. Most of them are crap.

well, i use bsplayer, but since i watch all my divx in the tv, maybe i will give zoomplayer a shoot. Why is it so good for tv anyway?

i use wmp6.4 for watching my movies on tv (and i only watch them on tv). dealing with bivx, i use morgan stream switcher (plug-in)
you may notice that i'm very puristic. (using simple.frontend -> m2a for encoding) ;-7

ZoomPlayer has zoom functions (ohhhh) that's why it is recommended for people with TV-out (but I boycott it, since Blight don't want to make a option to start playing directly with the second audio track :angry: )

As about Morgan Stream Switcher, it is buggy and can't handle mono streams (and don't tell me, who uses mono? well, there is many animes in mono!)

i never noticed any problems with morgan stream switcher, it's a pretty handy tool for me. but you may be right. i don't watch anime execpt for some mangas which are stereo..

I don't use the playa because it won't work with abr mp3, and I use GKnot.

I've tried several other players, such as PowerDivX and Zoom, but I get sync problems. Since it happens on multiple players, I assume its a problem with my w2k config on my laptop.

BSplayer(bsplay084.RC4.473) is my favorite because it so configurabile
i also ALWAYS watch my movies through the VIDEO-out to VCR wich is linked to TV

1) will the "Wait for vertical blank" in VIDEO tab increase the syncronization between the grafic card and a TV

2)wich desktop resolution and color depth is most recomendable for divx4 playback trough video out

3)HOW TO MAKE CHAPTERS IN *.bsi file and how to make it play in this mode??????

PS: i have tried more than 7 divx players in last 4 month and bsplayer has proved to be one of the best exept in early stages of divx4 bsplayer didnt have support for it but catched up realy quick at that time

Although it goes against my beta testing of PowerDivX4, I use BSPlayer, its just got everything you want :)

However, PowerDivX4 is evolving rapidly & could take the lead.

are there any current players that support pan and scan? I encoded all my widescreens in 16.9 instead of cropping to 4.3, and it's a bit small on my 15inch monitor. It would be great if a player could pan the image to 4.3 for me :)

to the guy that was saying he didn't use the playa because of gknot encoding with ABR, you probably know this but you can change it to encode with a constant bitrate instead. I always encode like this to avoid problems with virtualdub and players.

Incase you didn't know - use this switch in lame's advanced parameters in the encoding box.

are you telling me you're using an inferior encoding mode for your audio to be able to use 'The Playa' for watching ? You're kidding, are you ?

if we did a poll here what player is being used i tell you there weren't many votes for 'The Playa' .... only those with real old CPUs should use it, its definitely still the one with the lowest CPU load IMHO ... but that's it !

Oh right, I thought that the playa would be pretty decent as it's the one thats bundled with the codec... I'll check out a few others intsead :)

P.S What advantages does average bitrate have over constant?

I just downloaded and installed the latest version of BSPlayer and it's great! I can finally run my DivXs off cd, it kept jerky when using the playa.

I didn't know it was the playa that had problems with ABR mp3 streams, I thought it was something to do with virtualdub. But I just encoded a small clip and it plays back fine in BS. Thanks guys, it's a keeper :)

In ABR/VBR the audio codec can adapt the bitrate to the complexity of the sound, means high bitrate for explosions, etc. and very low bitrate for silence ..... for movie soundtracks this is even more important than for music, where you hardly ever have silence or huge jumps in dynamic.

We even started to create a new format now to be able to use true VBR audio codecs like Ogg Vorbis with our DivX movies, currently this is a no-no with AVIs ....

I allways use MicroDVD because i make menus for all my DivX movies. I like Radlight Player too becuase its simplicity.

I use ZoomPlayer (you can configure nearly everything). It's also a very good choice for lazy people like me who use an infrared-remote to control the PC because every function has it's special key or shortcut. The simple design and the fast development are other points I like about it.

I also tried PowerDivX (some time ago), BSPlayer (but not very intensively, I had problems with crashes) and of course the Windows Media Player (which has no functions at all ;-). As Christian said: The Playa is for very slow PCs (Pentium II 400 MHz should play DivX with it!).

Now that I rewrote the 2-Track audio code, I may add support for selecting which audio track to play. But frankly, you can switch tracks with one key press or 2 mouse clicks.

BSPLayer is most powerful, no doubt. Sometimes (rare) crashes.

For watching on TV I use WMP with DivXG400, because of playback 24 fps AVI with 25 fps.

if you use the option "load filter ->force" you can use divxg400 also in bsplayer, no need for wmp :scared: . dont know if the fps conversion works, i only use the zooming.

It is buggy, slow and outdated, but its 133t. So it automatically makes it far better than any non-133t player.
