Hi all
I need to convert an .mkv file to DVD.
I don't want to do it straight to DVD - I want to put it onto my hard drive first, as a series of .vob files, and then burn it to DVD.
Can anyone recommend a free tool that will allow me to do this - preferably not a time barred demo.I've just tried [spam] but it insisted on burning the files direct to DVD, and then froze half way through.
Can anyone help me out.
Thanks

Try FAVC (http://sites.google.com/site/favcfavc/home).

DVD Flick (http://www.dvdflick.net) or AVStoDVD (http://sites.google.com/site/avstodvdmain/).

@sneaker_ger
Thanks for your suggestion. I have downloaded, installed and tried FAVC (twice, now) and it doesn't seem to work as it should. It renders a 5.96 Gb .mkv file into an unviewable 62 Mb .vob file. I do have Avisynth v2.57 installed and the .NET Framework (v3.5), so I don't know what's going wrong ... ?
@Brazil2
Thanks for your suggestion - I will try those and report back.

It tries opening the files over DirectShowSource (over AviSynth) first, that means you have to have the necessary filters installed. Haali's Media Splitter and ffdshow should be sufficient for most files.
Otherwise create your own AviSynth source file for it and open that in FAVC. ( Or go with Brazil2's recommendation.)

Hi sneaker_ger
OK - thank you for taking the time to explain this to a noob. I haven't uninstalled FAVC, so maybe I will try it next time, bearing your comments in mind.
@Brazil2
Thanks for the suggestions. DVDFlick worked a treat.
Thanks again to both.
