Downsizing a VOB?

I have ripped a DVD to my hard drive, and after running VOB Extras in IFOEdit, it is still 4.5Gb's.

The DVD has 6 VOB fles, so, Is it possible for me to edit one vob file, maybe number 3 into a smaller vob by downsizing the pictre quality a bit, and keep all the sector addresses, so I can put it back into the Ripped DVD as VOB number 3, run IFOEdit and see what happens?

This is actually a good question.

I did this with The "Princess Diaries" and the result was not favorable at all.

I encode the first vob through dvd2avi to tmpgenc then remuxed the .ac3 and m2v to create a new vob. Had Ifo Edit to make me some new ifo's. Plays ok on the computer to a point.

On my set top however is a different story; When the encoded vob and the unencoded vobs play seemlessly They are blurred together. Also all of the chapter points do not play correctly.

The only way I found to eliminate this is just to frame serve the entire movie into tmpgenc and recode and remux and revob the movie.
