I am probably a little behind on the times here so I had a few quick questions to ask. In the past I have backed up hundreds of DVD's using DVDFabHD Decrypter. I either burn them compressed using Nero Recode or occasionally for movies I really want to preserve the quality on I use imgburn on DVD Dual Layer disks.

Is this still the preferred method? After perusing the guides and forums again I am not seeing anything talking about how to burn to dual layer disks. Are there other formats that preserve the quality that would be better?

I just ordered a big tv and bluray player now so I am going to want to learn how to backup Blurays. Is it any more complicated? Can I use DVDFab to rip?

Thanks!

The only way to archive the items is their original form (you may ask The Smithsonian or the Library of Congress). But you don't have the originals, but a compressed form of what the studios "rented" you (you don't own the DVD, just payed for the permission to watch its content).

Here we go in a nebulous territory, your perception of quality. If you're happy with DVD9->DVDR, well, you have the answer. If not then use DVDR DL.
