Any "One Click Solutions" for x264 yet?

I know a lot of people complain about it, but I have been using autoGK for years and it totally suits my needs. I haven't the time and effort to get all hardcore.. and in truth I can never see much difference between a 15 page faq of options and the one click autoGK rips...

Anyway... with HD revolution and all that I want re do all my DVD rips as higher res, as in = rez to source and also start making 720p or 1080p files of my blu-rays...

So I was wondering is there any apps like autoGK for MKV ... is MKV the best way to go? Is XviD still fine?

What I am hoping for is to be able to rip the blueray, or the DVD onto the hdrive and just load it up and hit encode... this ease of use far out weighs the supposed improvements by screwing about with a billion options I see in the faqs around doom9. I mean if I want perfect quality I can just watch my originals... I just way way way prefer to have heaps of film and TV shows on demand though a hd media player rather than having to screw about opening dvds getting them off the shelf and all that crap. Small digital black box next to the TV with everything in it.. that is the way go!!

Yea... so has anyone made any one click solutions for HD encoding yet like autoGK... or should I check back in a year or so?

Just use StaxRip, XviD4PSP, Handbrake or something like this. All of them are simple enough.

The difference between XviD and x264 for the same resolution/bitrate is pretty big, so there is no point using it unless you are stuck with a chip, that doesn't support anything else.

MeGUI has One-Click encoder which is very similar to AutoGK. You have to set it up only once and you can also create many profiles (output size, resolution, avisynth pre-filtering) if you want.

All these suggestions are excellent. MeGUI, StaxRip, and Ripbot264 are all excellent font-ends with the capability to do excellent "one click" encodes.

I've just recently discovered how awesome StaxRip is. It's definitely designed for more advanced users, but it's incredibly powerful.

Has MeGUI been updated recently? AFAIK it still doesn't properly support recent x264 builds.

StaxRip (http://sourceforge.net/projects/staxmedia/files/StaxRip%20final/StaxRip_1.1.3.7z/download) can work as a one click converter and get you some pretty good results
full support for encoding Blu-ray sources are a work in progress but should be fully supported soon it can be done with some small tweaks:D

EDIT: Nevermind, I just realized that it uses either the stable OR the development server. Until now I thought it checks both.

Apparently he has downscaled them before, and intends to skip that step now:

... so it may be a good idea in some cases, if the source has not been lowpassed too heavily.

Yes, there are definite image quality improvements when not resizing at all - provided you have enough bitrate to keep the QPs down.
