Difference between 2 builds

I'm making the first encoding pass of a movie with the Xvid's build of the 21th January. Can I use another build (28/01) to make the second pass, does this will improve the quality of the result or change nothing at all ? I can't make the first pass once again, because it would take a too long time ( 3 days... ).

3 days? do you have a 386 processor? or using 200'000 filters? filtering is baaaad.. all you should use is the resizer and decomb when necessary.. all the smoothing, sharpening, etc will make your movie look unnatural and very different from the DVD source

In most cases, the changes to the codec are minor and it won't make much of a difference. The build from 21st introduced the biggest changes with a new code for lumi-masking. (I, on the other hand, once used a new build for 2nd pass not knowing that the new build had a changed inter-/intra-decision. As a result, the new version made different decisions on keyframes...)

@Doom9 : the movie is really noisy, so I wanted to try the denoiser filter of TMPEG, which is a little slow ( I've a T-Bird 1Ghz ), but seems to give excellent results ( perhaps I could get enough results with a faster filter, but I did not find one which could match ).

:D Well for most new movies, you're correct. Generally the transfers are very clean and don't need much tweaking. However, if you encode lots of stuff from the 70s and earlier (or do caps, convert lots of anime etc.), filtering can be essential for good output. Things like Dynamic Noise Reduction, Smartsmoother, Sharpen, etc. etc. can really make a difference on shitty sources. Sometimes you really don't want your conversion to look exactly like the source ;) .
