temporal smoother has just the same effect in .avs-scripts for use with XviD as it has for DivX3- it increases compressibility by reducing noise but adds a slightly unnatural look starting at (3) or (4), depending on your taste... Perhaps it's best to make a compressibility test without temporal smoother, first, and only use temporal smoother if the source compresses badly.
