View Full Version : PSI structure of HD programs

Hi,

When I tune in to a HD channel in France (Astra 19.2E) with my DM7000 (DVB-S), I get a proper PAT for all the transponder's programs (which are all HD or data), and the PAT entry of the desired program does give a valid PMT PID.

However, the PMT is strange (attached dvbsnoop parsing): it contains only user-defined DVB-descriptors (types 0xC3 and 0xFA), no standard audio or video descriptors. Moreover one of the descriptors contains only ASCII text saying "please subscribe...", while the channel is supposedly FTA.

So it seems that HD programs, though transmitted over DVB-S in France, use a different PSI structure than SD. Is this documented somewhere ?

Thanks in advance,

-Alex

PS: I know the DM7000 won't be able to decode the H264 video; I'd just like to record the TS and display it on a PC.

ARTE HD German (720p) is free, the French one (1080i) is encrypted.

Ah OK thanks.
However, even encrypted SD channels do have a valid PMT with A/V descriptors...

Post a link to a sample TS file.

Post a link to a sample TS file.

The attached zip contains the TS saved by enigma. It does have the same PMT as the original, but the PAT is filtered for SPTS. Also attaching the raw PAT taken by 'dvbsnoop -s ts -tssubdecode 0'.

Can't you give the original TS?

I don't know what "enigma" is and don't really care.

No. I'm struggling to record that program. The Dreambox's UI just records the PAT+PMT (attached). A superset of the original could be the full transponder's TS, however 'dvbsnoop -tsraw' doesn't work here (DVB API version 1), so I'm stuck to snooping PIDs one by one. I did that for both the PAT and PMT. No idea where the A/V PIDs can be found.

I don't know what "enigma" is and don't really care.

It is the Dreambox's main app.

No. I'm struggling to record that program. Just record and upload the entire TS.

If you have some app in-between who knows what is present or not in the original stream.

Again, I cannot. The "original" is not a file, it is coming down the transponder. So the only thing I can do is tune in to the frequency, and tell dvbsnoop to extract one PID at a time.
I did it for PID 0 and got the PAT as expected.
Knowing the service ID I identified its PAT entry, hence its PMT PID, and then extracted the PMT. The PMT in turn doesn't have the usual A/V PIDs, so I cannot proceed further.

The TS you uploaded is 7KB. Is that what you intended?

Yes. You must realize that it contains only PAT and PMT, which are a few packets per second at best, and highly repetitive. I didn't deem it necessary to record days of that boring stuff.

P.S. I got a notification for your last message but I don't see it on the forum's web interface...
