Problem with Ritek blank discs

I have been using DvdFab 6.2.1.8 to back up my dvd
collection.The software is excellent.Previous versions faultless.
The problem is the back-up disc will play and then stop
at various parts of the movie. Burning speed 2X and 4X.
My dvd burner is NEC DVD_RW ND 2500A and the burning engine
is VSO.
My question is it the Ritek blank discs or VSO burning engine
that is causing the problem.

Also your player can be part of the problem ;)

And also you didn't provide too much info about the Riteks, as there are players that do not recognise DVD DL. In addition, you don't have the possibility to check the burned disk thouroughly (I assume you burned with Verify after burning) other than reading it back (it's a NEC).

The dvd player is a stand alone Pioneer.
Ritek discs are not double layer.
I did not verify after burning disc.

Try ImgBurn. If still no worky, ditch those awful Ritek blanks and use Verbatim or TY.

Ritek is bad because people get Riteks as 2nd choice (ie what remains after Maxell takes the best batches). Complains about Maxells (Riteks) not so many. I also used Riteks 8x (labelled as Octron for LIDL and Maxell), not perfect burns but stable in time.

As I said : it's your choice not to use Verify but don't blame other things if you don't know what you did. Pioneer SAPs have one of the best optical pickups (if series above 4xx) so it's your burner-disk problem.


@laserfan: Apparently the only TY in Germany is labelled JVC and is not readily available. Also there are only few Verbatims MIT, now they are MIC too.

Yes, it could be. That is why the suggestion from laserfan to try ImgBurn. It is free, there is NO better burning software available, and it will help determine the problem. Also, ImgBurn's verify after burn can help determine if there is an issue with the actual burn or burner, saving you time trying to chase down the issue. :cool:

The video files play without error using PowerDvd so I
guess it must be the Ritek dvd-R discs or my burner.

Or try different burning software first. Simple test, no cost involved, except 1 blank DVD media, might save you from a new burner.;)

Before giving-up you might try other speeds than whichever speed is failing for you.

Unless you got an extremely bad batch, which you can't measure with your NEC (as very few burners can test blanks), the most likely cause is the burner itself - get a new one.

But it may be as I told you before - your NEC is not optimised for Riteks (the log says that you can only burn at 2x or 4x when the DVDR itself is rated 8x).

I have discarded the Ritek dvd-r blank discs
and buying new Pioneer Dvr 218 Dvd-r/rw writer.
Anyone used Liteon IHAS324 dvd burner.
