What format to demux Blu ray content?

From what I can see when ripping from a blu ray dvd there is either a .264 content or vc-1 content. When ripping them to encode via megui which format would be best to rip to (such as .ts .m2ts. mkv, etc)? Through all the trials I have had thus far I have had some difficulties and these should be expected but the lengths I've gone to correct myself and find information are becoming quite frustrating.

If I could find a decent, and CURRENT guide to rip blu ray content to an mkv file I could skip the whole disturbance in the doom9 force with simple questions. I dislike asking many questions because when it comes to ripping/encoding blu ray content I've just started...well recently (total noob status) and with noob status in a particular area some members get frustated with "simple" questions.

My biggest issues thus far are making a script as I get a filter error from Megui concerning a DS filter error (despite having DS filters installed) and encoding DTS and Dolby TrueHD audio to AAC. Currently I can't get vc-1 content to open via avisynth because of my DS error and encoding DTHD via megui is telling me it will take around 2 hours.

I hope I do not sound as though I am flipping out but I am frustrated with my lack of knowledge in the ability to correct my own errors. :confused: yields :mad:.

Tried graphstudio and the video stream didn't even show up. I know it's there because 1) I ripped it and 2) mediainfo shows it.

Didn't try the ffdshow source because I thought there must be a better way. I can't do that every time I rip blu ray content. Or was that just a way to test something out?

Please let me know, all the help I get to make myself more independent in the matter helps.

Just because you may have the FFDShow installed, doesn't mean that it it's decoding settings are setup correctly.

When you say "DS error", I assume you main that it could not find a compatible codec? If so, then A) install FFDShow, and B) under the Video Codecs section, make sure that the H.264 (or VC-1) row has a decoder selected.

Although, now that I realize that you have Win 7 (which has a number of oddities concerning Directshow) this may be a little "deeper" of an issue.

Edit: @Setarip_old, that is an option, if the OP doesn't care about the file size.

I thank you for the suggestion but one-click solutions don't give me the detail that I'm looking for. Megui is perfect for my current needs. I don't have to do EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING yet I don't have anything near a one-click solution with so little dictation over what I specifically want.

I'm slightly confused. Are you asking what detail I would like to have in my encoding process? If so I already have what I would like I am simply having issues with, well, making the script and getting it to open in megui. I've had directshow errors indicating that I must not have the proper filters installed and others stating that megui cannot connect to the graph or something.

What I am really just trying to do is rip and encode my blu ray movies. Being relatively new to the process (as it is obviously different than ripping a standard dvd) I am having issues. I thought ripping to a specific file format (.ts, .m2ts, etc) would help alleviate some/one of my issues. Unfortunately I'm either not expressing myself in a manner that is easily understood or I'm having issues with the programs/content. I'm sorry if my goal is misunderstood or if I am not expressing myself in a precise manner.

What "detail" are you looking for that you know MakeMKV can't provide?

Well, in all honesty, I don't know much about the program other than what is on the homepage but I suppose I could tell you what I like about my current process. I am able to specify what resolution I want my file to be, size, bit rate, subs, encode my audio to what I wish and at what bit rate. Ya know, all the more precise actions taken when doing things manually (or, more manually than not I should say) vs a one click solution. I do not mean to imply that one click solutions are inferior but I do like the process that I have and it works for me. Not to mention, after all the manual work, it is nice to see the fruits of the energy I put forth :). I think the most important feature/process that I must have is the ability to choose (very specifically) what x264 settings I want.

Does this answer suffice?

I suppose I don't know ALL the features of makemkv so I can't compare the two and tell you what MakeMKV is not able to provide me. Looks like a great program though. If the decrypting is as good as Anydvd I wouldn't mind supporting another author(s). The $100 or so dollars for Anydvd can be a bit pricey I suppose.

Well thats great to know. Maybe slysoft will have some strong competition. It says beta is free, have any ideas what the paid version will cost?

I loaded up MakeMKV to have a look and it looks very very much like the old DVDDecrypter - just a coincidence?

Anyway, the fact it decrypts is great, but it has very few options. Looks like it is only good if you want to clone a BD, can't strip audio, select main movie only, re-encode to smaller resolution, etc. I take it people are using multiAVCHD or RipBot, but both of those need ANyDVD HD running to decrypt right?

So I'm guessing nothing out there does it all in one program?
