View Full Version : DivX Author adding Chapters to Divx Lossless?

If I take a previously encoded Divx file, open it with DivX Author, add chapters and then save the new file in Divx format is this a lossless process or is the video re-encoded causing loss of quality.

How long does it take? If it is a very quick process (around the time it would take to copy the file) it is probably lossless, if it takes a few hours it is probably not lossless.

Sorry I don't have any experience with DivX Author.

I'm not sure how DivX Author handles creating chapters, but I'll see if I can find out. In the meantime, I can tell you that the DMF spec allows for creation of chapters with XML that can be muxed with the DivX mux. There's some old docs up here about it: http://download.divx.com/labs/DivXMediaFormat_SDK_r2.rar

It does take a while as if it is re-encoding the file and that is what makes me ask the question as I figured it may re-encoding it again but am not sure.

I am almost positive it is re-encoding then. If you can pick time/quality settings then it is for sure.
