Hi guys!
Just a quick one. Is there any way I can convert a 3D encoded AVC clip into normal 2D? The red ghosting around it without 3D glasses is quite annoying!

encoded how ? you can have 2 video streams in mkv and watch 2d on a 2d player and 3d on a 3d one.

juGGaKnot : it's not a question of encoding. It's not a "true" 3D video he's got, it's 3D emulated thanks to blue & red tainted glasses. So there's a single video stream. And there's nothing he can do, as Chengbin said.

Not the end of the world - I guess we'll just have to buy 2 pairs of 3D glasses then! :thanks:

Huh? Can't we emulate the filtering effect of "blue & red tainted glasses" with a fancy Avisynth script?
If so, we could extract two separate 2D streams from the "3D" stream. We could then discard one of them to get a simple 2D view.
Of course that won't retain the "3D" effect, but at least produces something we can view without special equipment...

Only if you don't mind losing the colour. The full colour information is only available if you combine both frames correctly (and I am quite certain that is beyond what any commonly available software can do currently). Actually my brain can't even do it, all attempts to watch such films have resulted in me neither seeing the correct colours nor any 3D, though with enough effort a headache is easy to achieve.

The last time I tried (about a year ago) no player was supporting 3D playback from matroska files with stereo dual video streams.
The only one that did open the two streams was VLC but it didn't do anything else (just open two separate windows).
Did anything change since then ? did I miss a major software improvement ?

Is there any MKV splitter that creates two video output pins for such files, one for each stream? If there is such a splitter, the Stereoscopic Player should be able to display the video in 3D.
The principle would be similar to the 3D-AVIs created by the Fuji Finepix W1. The Microsoft AVI Splitter has two video pins when playing such an AVI and the Stereoscopic Player just uses these two video streams. As the implementation is not AVI-specific, it should work with all other formats, too.
