Nuendo 4 and CoolEdit 2 can't. (Audio gets truncated at ~ 40 minutes.)
Does anybody know of one that can?

Manage >4GB is a hard work, maybe is better spilt the wav in stereo or monowavs.
The wav files >4GB can't have a correct wav header, use the w64 header instead:
eac3to MultichanBigThan4GB.wav CorrectHeader.w64
Try with the w64 file, at least Audacity can open the file.

Thanks for your suggestion, tebasuna51. There's also the RF64 or "Broadcast Wave" format as an alternative. It's supported by Cubase for one I know of. W64 seems to be the Sound Forge approach (-> Wikipedia: WAV file format (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WAV))
For compatibility it's best to stick with mono or stereo WAVs, as you said.
