Aspect Ratio 1.78 or 1.82?

What is this nonsense? I have a 720x480 anamorphic movie. The DVD box says 1.78:1. After checking the box for anamorphic in megui it wants the aspect ratio to be 1.82. Why is this? What should I do?

The real used picture area of NTSC DVD is 704x480! (nearby)
That is AR 4:3 or anamorphic 16:9 = 1.78.
The 8 pixels on every side are black tv overscan.
If they simple use it (hardware players don't show this pixels), then you get 1.82.
The displayed picture on tv screen has AR 1.78.

The DVD boxes are frequently inaccurate. It may be a 1.85:1 letterboxed in a 1.78:1 frame.
