Browsing through a couple of threads in seems like alot of you guys are impressed by the Xvid codec.

I've always stuck to DivX 4.12, is it worth trying out XVid instead? Is it quicker at encoding?

Thanks for any help, I know it sounds like im being a bit lazy but I havent really got the time to go through hours of encoding to see which is best.

If you have an Athlon XP or P4, DivX 4.12 will be faster for you. For any other CPUs, XviD should be ahead (very much so on my K7 1.2).

It doesn't take hours to test - just do a 5000 frame test and see if you find the difference to be worth it :)

while you may not wish to spend the time testing (some might call this being lazy) you sure have enough time to read my codec comparison.
