District 9 DVD-New protection old solution

1) Despite SONY's apparent new protection scheme, good ol' RipIt4Me (I use v.1.6.4) efforlessly performed a full disc copy of the "District9" DVD - including the all-important "forced" subs (displayed when aliens [and local gun sellers] speak).

2) DVD95Copy Pro effortlessly ripped and compressed the full disc to fit on a DVD-5 (single layer DVD)

3) Also, almost humorously, I quickly tried the ancient SmartRipper - and it was able to perform an almost perfect movie-only rip of this DVD that appeared to require only a small amount of extra work and patience (which I did not pursue) to make it perfect...

And yet, if I understand correctly, "fengtao" is holding back the release of a version of the freeware DVDFab HDDecrypter that can rip "District 9"?

The full version of DVDFab 6.2.0.5 doesn't work for me on District 9. I do not see anywhere on their site that their is a new full version that will do it.

Edit: RipIt4Me 1.7.1.0 seems to work too, I got errors but it seems to play correctly.

Believe it or not plain old DVDShrink with nothing working in the background will back this up, movie only, Title 1

Hi!

A minor point SmartRipper is significantly older than DVD Shrink...

BTW - Check to make sure that the chapters playback in proper sequence.

Using Ripitforme 1.7.1 I was able to rip with errors as above. But where the resulting copy will play in a rom drive, it won't in my standalone. Has anyone tried their standalone?

I should have mentioned that I burned a full dvd copy that failed on a standalone. A movie only copy played fine.

Re-read my opening post. The first two methods produced full disc copies that were burned to discs that were playable on standalone players...

The latest DVD FabHD ripper, v6216beta, handles it just fine. But after cleanup with DVD RemakePro and resize with Shrink, the resulting copy will play on my cheap old LG Dn 788, but not on my much better Yamaha Dvd-S1700. It just sits there trying to find the menu. And becomes non-responsive to the remote. This is the first time its ever refused a disc. At this point I'm not looking for solutions, just reporting the situation.

What happens when you try to use DVDFab? Does it throw an error, or blow up, or what?

For me, it would stop after 710mb and throw an error. The latest beta handles it no problem, v6.2.1.6
