Is this encode reasonable for playability

It would be the 1080p version of a video I created, downloadable for anyone who wants it... obviously 1080p requires computing power but I want to be reasonable when distributing to the masses, although I'd assume most people who would chose the 1080p over the 720/480 versions would have decent computer rigs.

Single core is out, but any dual core CPU with a multithreading decoder will play it.

If you used the MeGUI DXVA "HD HQ" preset, that means you used a VERY old build of x264. Look in the MeGUI forum for an updated version that's compatible with newer builds.

This will get you MBTree, Weighted P-Frames and all sorts of other goodies.

That being said, your existing encode is probably just fine. 17mbps ABR is pretty demanding for CPU only decoding, but since you used a DXVA preset, you should get hardware acceleration on a properly configured player with compatible hardware.

If you're happy with the quality, fine. If not (or if you want to get the size down somewhat) I'd update your MeGUI and x264, and try CRF 19 or something :)

Also, stop using MP3 ;) AAC is vastly superior in most cases! I mean, to each his own, but AAC + AVC in MP4 or MKV makes my heart warm and fuzzy :p
