Sadly a google search just finds information on programs that created headed mpg's .. I'd like to learn more about the difference and what this means in relationship to the file.

Convert to headed mpeg (mpeg streamclip rewrites the non standard headers to look like legit ones for dvds)

mpg, one of a number of file extensions for MPEG-1 computer files. Wiki is the right one to search this kind of thing.

In the case of the Topfield 5000 if you want to upload a MPEG2 file to it's hard disk you have to add a so called Topfield header for it to be playable. You can do this in MPEGStreamclip and ProjectX. You also need to name change the suffix from .mpg to .rec Not necessary for the Beyonwiz PVR a standard MPEG2 PS or TS format will suffice.
