Is ripping and encoding a DVD simultaneously that bad for the DVD drive?

Is the process a lot faster if you use DVDDecrypter + MeGui as opposed to just using Handbrake and making the DVD the source?

Considering how cheap DVD Drives are now, I wouldn't be concerned about the lifespan, although they do tend to run noisier than they used to.

As far as speed, decrypting on-the-fly shouldn't be significantly slower as long as the DVD drive stays continually active and doesn't have to keep spinning up to send data.
