"crop:top and left must be more than 0"
well the settings are -40,-40,20,20
so whats going wrong
issue goes away if i do -0,-0, and then any number

Top-left corner of the image starts with pixel number 1. There is no pixel with number -40...
-0 is the same as 0 and means do nothing

Crop(clip clip, int left, int top, int width, int height, bool align)
Crop(clip clip, int left, int top, int -right, int -bottom, bool align) (http://avisynth.org/mediawiki/Crop)
The error message is a bit misleading, since top and left are allowed to be zero, but they must not be negative.
If you want to crop 40 pixels from the left and top, and 20 from the right and bottom, you would use
Crop(40, 40, -20, -20)

yeah sorry folks, should have updated this hours ago, i figured it out and it should have been 0,0,-0,-0, so in other words, 2 minus's at the end.

Crop(0,0,-0,-0) is the same as Crop(0,0,0,0) and simply passes the clip unchanged, ie effectively does nothing.
