I may not have the technical word to describe what I am talking about here goes. When I view mp4 video files in explorer I get a small picture (see attachment). I really like this. Now, if I mux it into an MKV file I don't get that cool little pic/preview. It's just the default icon for mkv files. My only guess was that it was some kind of cache thing. So, is it possible to have this little preview (thingy) with mkv files as well or is it limited to certain file types (of which I've only seen mp4 video files do it).
Edit: Oh, Win7 x86.

Can't answer the question, but it would probably be called mkv windows explorer thumbnail - which should help you find info on Google maybe?
Cheers,
David.

You need Divx Tech Preview. Also I believe there is some registry tweak for that but I forgot what exactly should be done...

Found it! Just enable thumbnail preview from Haali media splitter->options->explorer integration->enable thumbnails extraction.
If you'd like, you can change the offset as well so that all the thumbnails don't look the same (for those files that may have similar intros such as tv shows). Just change the offset to whatever you'd like(10000s 10 secs into the video, measured in ms).

Afaik this feature found to be buggy, especially on win7 and will be gone in next release...
