View Full Version : trouble batch re-encoding mpeg 1 & 2 (PAL and NTSC) video into mp4 x264

Hi, I have alot of video and much of it is encoded with mpeg 1 & 2. I have been trying to find a program that supports batch encoding into x/h264 and acc but so far (using SUPER and automen frontends) almost every one of my files "breaks" (gives an error before finishing encoding). I seem to have a bit more luck with mkv containers but as mp4 is supported a bit more widely i would prefer mp4. Are there any encoders out there that are perhaps a bit less finicky? (I am assuming that perhaps there are errors in my files? this is a bit out of my league).
Any ideas or suggestions would really be appreciated.
Cheers

SUPER is a piece of garbage. Use a known good workflow: DGIndex -> Avisynth -> x264.

Hmmm, i think the quality of SUPER was established when i posted that it didn't seem to suffice. I am aware of DGIndex avisynth and x264 but how to use them (like making a avisynth script?) is a bit beyond me. Is there perhaps a front end that can make DGIndex, Avisynth and x264 a bit more noob friendly?
Thank you,

HDConvertToX is pretty good for this.

MeGUI. I still recommend using DGIndex manually, though, because it's a useful chance to preview the content and check for the presence/percentage of pulldown flags in the source. So long as you're not cutting (which is easy), you need to use all of two buttons to get a D2V file and audio.

If you are doing batch encoding, try MediaCoder.
I personally don't recommend DGIndex for batch encoding because it requires additional passes and disk spaces to finish your job.
