Copying image gallery photos from DVD extras

It has been a few years since I have worked with "backing up" data from DVD movies. Anywho, I am interested in backing up photos from picture galleries that are located on DVD extras. How can this be done? If my memory serves me correctly, all info on the DVD is contained withing .ifo and .vob files. Is there a way to strip the raw image files from the .vob files?

You can rip the VOB, then enable ffdshow to decode it. On playback and with "grab" set to every frame it will copy all frames to images in a predetermined folder.

This can all be done with ffdshow? Meaning I can perform this "grab" function within ffdshow? Do you have a url to a guide that explains this process?

Ripping the VOB would be done with a ripper, such as DVD Decrypter. Set in IFO mode you'll be able to see each playable portion of the DVD and have the opportunity to decrypt it as a file to your drive.

Installing ffdshow and setting MPEG 2 playback to "libvacodec" will allow the ffdshow "Grab" feature to work with most media players (Windows Media Player, Media Player Classic, VLC, etc). After you set ffdshow "Grab" properties and checking "Grab," all frames of that video will be saved upon playback. It's that simple.

The "Grab Now" button is greyed out and it isn't saving the images.

Check "Grab" in the left pane, then start the video playing. The "Grab now" button will only copy the current frame in a video and will only do so if you've opened the ffdshow properties window from the tray icon that appears during playback, or from within the "Properties" of the player window.

Another tip: (For purposes of locating and id'ing the file you want.)
Watch the photo/slide show on the dvd, and note the length of time, i.e. 8:25 or whatever. Use regular old DVD Decrypter in IFO mode. Find file of that length and decrypt.
