View Full Version : FFDshow 12-3-09 (MMX or SSE)?

I noticed there's a newer version of FFDShow than what is linked in the BDRebuilder Bug thread.

Question if I may. Typically if a SW is compiled to utilize the MMX or SSE instruction sets of a CPU, would that also not typically make the said SW run faster and/or use less resources?

If so, my CPU has both sets (MMX & SSE), since the FFDShow compile is either one, which one would be a better option?

"

Notes about latest versions of FFDShow MPEG-4 Video Decoder :

- FFDShow 2009-11-08 (rev. 3130) was compiled by drevil_xxl using GCC 4.1.1 (libavcodec.dll & libmplayer.dll), FFDShow 2009-12-03 (rev. 3142) MMX* was compiled by clsid using ICL9 while FFDShow 2009-11-03 (rev. 3124) SSE** was also compiled by clsid using ICL9.
* Only for CPUs with support for MMX (MultiMedia eXperience) instructions.
** Only for CPUs with support for SSE (Streaming SIMD Extensions) instructions. Check if your CPU has support for SSE or SSE2 instructions using Cpu-Z, a small tool which shows infos about CPU"

TIA :thanks:

Personally, I think the smart money stays with the versions jdobbs has listed on page 1 of the "Bug" thread.

You should be able to get the regular FFDShow-20091108.exe (or whatever) since you most probably have a PC that handles both/all the listed instruction sets.

First of all, there is no MMX build of ffdshow. Neither is ICL9 being used. Stop getting your stuff from crappy sites such as free-codecs.com. They have lots of incorrect information on their site.

Get the generic ffdshow build from its official site:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow-tryout

clsid,

Was unaware about crappy sites. Due to my unawareness, this is why I posted the question here, in this forum.

I knew people would have the correct and informed answer.

Thanks to all who replied :thanks:

If you're using FFDSHOW mainly for BD-RB and DVD-RB I would recommend you stick with the one linked on the first page of the bug thread. That's because I don't post it there until I test it for a while... and you can be fairly comfortable that all is good. There are a LOT of versions posted for FFDSHOW -- and there have been a couple recently that have caused crashes with X264 -- so if you are one of those "I need the latest the day it is released" guys, don't be surprised if you run into issues...
