I found the problem about "Angels and Demons" region 2 (Japan).
When decrypting by DVDDecrypter ;
Its log shows "Pack Header Not Found" in sector 2895161 to 2895480.
It is a part of VTS_02_1.VOB and playable.
About outputu of DVDDecrypter ;
VobEdit shows its sectors as "Unknown Pack".
VobBlanker shows "WARNING: Packs unsynchronized. Skipping packs..." in log when processing, and the size of file is reduced.
When decrypting by DVDFabHDDDecrypter ;
There is no problem, but its size of file is reduced.
It seems to skip problematic sectors.
When decrypting by AnyDVDRipper ;
It can't finish by error.
Error message is "PS 14 VOBU 4 276164 166 Clone 6".
This "Pack Header Not Found" is bad manufuctureing of DISC ?
I feel it's not protect.
Regards.

Hi!
Although, as we all know, anything is possible regarding copy protection, SONY hasn't (to my knowledge) applied any updated or new types of copy protection on standard DVDs for about a year now.
Therefore, I'd suggest you return the disc to the place of purchase in exchange for a new replacement...
BTW - It is a part of VTS_02_1.VOB and playable.If VTS_02 is NOT the main movie, then it's EXTREMELY unlikely that this is a copy protection-related problem.
**Update** When the Region 1 version is ripped with the freeware version of DVDFab, the size of VTS_02_1 ripped to hard drive is identical to that of the disc version of VTS_02_1

Now I'm asking the information about this DVD.
I know there have ever been 2 problematic DVDs in Japan. These have no protection, but DVDShrink had error when processing.

VTS_02 is not main movie. It is extras (introduction of new DVDs).
VTS_02 and VTS_07 seem to be same, they are same size and have same replayed movie.
VTS_07 is replayed at first, and VTS_02 is replayed by selecting from main menu.

I also have problems with my Region 1 disc using the latest version of DVD Fab Free (6.2.0.5). Just the initial scan before I even try to rip it comes up with errors. I'm trying it now with Ripit4Me/DVD Decrypter and it seems to be going, but we'll see. I haven't used this program in over a year.
BTW, I couldn't find this movie doing a search because the title of the movie is "Angels & Demons"

I didn't see this update at first, how were you able to successfully backup your region 1 disc using DVD Fab Free? This is exactly what I am trying to do and I get stuck eternally on "Open DVD Source." It finds an error and I click on "Ignore All" and it just never finishes getting to the main windows to backup my disc. Thanks.
UPDATE: Per my post below I had a defective disc.

I have no "Angels & Demons" DVD, only the DB Disc with digital copy in the disc.
maybe you can try the new Winx DVD Ripper it is free. and they say :
"support the Latest Copy Protection Technology" such as Transformer2, star trek, up before anyDVD and DVDFab relase the fixed version .

Just to update, I went to play my disc in my stand alone DVD player, and it had skipping problems towards the end of the movie. I was able to exchange my disc for a new one at point of purchase and I am now able to successfully back it up. So I did have a bad or damaged disc and DVD Fab does work ripping this. Thanks for the help.

I think it actually took about 10 days for the AnyDVD (slysoft) folks to resolve the issue.
At first they seems to expect elby resolves it.
I heard
AnyDVD's ripper uses code from Elby's CloneDVD to rip.
So in this case Slysoft had to punt the problem over to Elby.
Actually I confirmed
1_AnyDVD ripper =>error
2_ISO created by AnyDVD => 0k
3_DVDShrink and AnyDVD(background)=> ok
4_CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD(background)=> error
5_output of DVDDecrypter, CloneDVD2=> error
6_output of DVDDecrypter, DVDShrink=> ok
Now 1 and 4 have no problem, only 5 has the problem.
Please see about detail from http://forum.slysoft.com/showthread.php?t=35866
Regards.
