Hi

I'm syncing VBR DivX's with a movie's ac3 audio.

Can someone please tell me if(and when) it's better to set the interleave to ms and when to frames? which is preferrable?

Thanks.:)

I think most of us always use 1-3 frames for our settings. Try a value of 2 and see how it goes.

for ac3, it is recomended to use 96ms for syncing audio. Why? because it seems to work. i have had skipping problems with frame interleaving with AC3 audio. the interleave setting with VBR MP3 has no effect.

@LotionBoy

I have to somewhat disagree;) The 96ms is for the lucky people using SoundBlasters. If you don't have one of these cards then the defaults seem to work just fine.

I must be the only one in this forum not using a SB/Creative card:D

so the general rule is to use any value you want until you get problems. then try 64,96 or 128ms interleave.

and if you ever want to play your files on a pc with soundblaster live you should use 64,96 or 128ms anyway. ;)

Well said;)

wow, a non-soundblaster user. how have you avoided being assimilated?

must buy creative sound products.
must buy creative sound products.

hehe.

I'd recomend 96 or 64 anyway, just in case you end up at a friend's house and they have a soundblaster card. It's greater compatibility with no cost to the quality or to the size.

Thanks guys.
I use SB and on most films 1frame or 64-96ms does seem to work, after fiddling with the preliminary delay for 30 minutes.

Do I understand correctly that "Interleave" means how much time is measured from one sync-point between audio and video stream to the next?
Also, I've read somewhere that an interleaving value in ms should be devidable by the amount of time a frame shows (say 40ms on a 25fps PAL picture). Any truth to this?

Also, check out my new post regarding XMPeg on this board, I think it's something everyone who wants DivX+AC3 would love to have. :-)

Cheers!
