AnyDVD within a virtual PC?

Hi!

Im running a virtual pc (this xp mode stuff for windows 7) and installed the newest any dvd in this virtual pc. I want to make backups of all my dvds. But for some reason, anydvd seems not work properly in the virtual environment. I always get the error "FileIO 3".
Any Ideas please?

Why not run the program in Windows 7?

In the XP mode you can only use your drive as a CD/DVD-ROM and it's not possible to burn your backups to discs inside the XP mode. The CPU speed inside the virtual box was also painfully slow. Like an old 8088 processor.

that's wrong. Probably you are not using the SATA Virtualbox controller.

Sure you are not talking about VirtualBox? Can't find any SATA setting in Windows 7's virtual XP mode.

Virtualbox is the virtualization system from Sun. It by default emulates an IDE controller. If you change to SATA, it will be much faster.

Virtualbox is not what the thread starter is using. He is using the XP mode in Windows 7.

If you're not running it within a true virtual machine, then why are you running it in XP mode within Win7? I'm using Win7 Ultimate 32bit with the latest version of AnyDVD (6.6.0.3) and have no problems.

Actually I thought about running AnyDVD in a XP mode in Win7 also but that's because I hadn't yet discovered the threads about how to tweak the filter settings in Win7 and my normal flow with megui, avisynth were no longer working because of the new Microsoft filter archiecture. So the goal was to do all my backup and encoding in XP mode.

But I found in XP mode, I couldn't even see the BD drive let alone run AnyDVD so gave up on that. I didn't persevere too much since I then discovered how to set the filter chain back to Directshow. So as noted, AnyDVD works fine in Win7 and there is no real need to run it in a virtual machine.
