Hello,

I'm a complete newbie and would like some suggestions as how to solve a problem I ran into. I did check the forum for simular situations but could not find any.
I made a copy of a DVD which came out perfectly, using dvd decrypter and dvd shrink and imgburn. This is in ntsc format. I then proceeded to make a copy in PAL format using edit.ifo. Again, came out the way I wanted it, could play al the chapters and use all (4) the subtitles on my computer's dvd drive.
I mailed the PAL DVD to my brother in Europe who told me that all worked well, menu, subtitles and everything, except NO COLOR.
Where did I go wrong. All I know is that my brother's dvd player is about 3 years old.

Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Where did I go wrong.
You went wrong twice. The first was 'converting' it to PAL unnecessarily since almost all players/TV sets in Europe can play NTSC DVDs, and the other was making a bogus conversion. You didn't convert it to PAL at all, but just changed some information in the IFO to try and fool a player. Just mail him the NTSC DVD. If he has that one in a thousand player/TV combination that can't watch it for one reason or another, he can watch it on the computer or at a friend's house.

And welcome to the forum.

The color information on the DVD remained the same (NTSC color space) but the player is instructed to send it as PAL. No wonder that the TV does not understand the colour :)

Almost every DVD player in Europe can do NTSC (native or PAL60), which is not the case I was told in the US of A, where finding a PAL-capable player is as difficult as finding a non-NTSC-capable dvd player in EU. :)

Thanks for the info. I'll send him a NTSC DVD
