View Full Version : Is there a way to play an MKV with its cognate MKS?

I'm curious as to what this MKS subtitle container can do for me. For reasons probably peculiar to me, I'd like to keep my subs separate from my audio/video (in MKV) in an MKS if possible.

Is there any way that the two files can remain separate and loaded simultaneously so that the audio/video/subs can play nicely together, hopefully in MPC-HC?

If not, what is the purpose of this subtitle-only container?

Afaik no. This is impossible. And about purpose... mkv, mka, mks - all is the same container, just content is different...

EDIT: for example one day mks may became a "native" format for aegisub, so it can store subtitles with fonts to it...
Of course anything is possible if someone will add such feature to existing software.

OK, thanks. Is there then some way of playing parallel tracks (same timecodes) split into two different MKV (or MKS) files? I'ld like to keep audio/video in one file and subs in the other file. I think this feature would have to be added to the Haali splitter though, and I'm not sure that could be done.
