Paramount - GI Joe - No problem

Based on the lack of posts here and at other forums, it appears that Paramount chose not to use the same type of copy protection on the standard DVD version of "G.I. Joe" that caused so much hubbub last week regarding "Transformers 2".

Likewise, apparently nothing special/new from SONY regarding the standard DVD version of the remake of "The Taking of Pelham 123"

I couldnt rip it with DVD FAB. I followed some instructions on this site and was able to backup Transformers 2 movie only, but the instructions told me which file to use. Anyone found a solution to GI Joe?

I spoke too soon. It does have the protection but the newest DVDFAB HD Decrypter 6.1.2.5 takes care of it.

I use DVD Decrypt It decrypted GI Joe np but it is 40 gig. Any idea which title I need to reauthor so I can get the movie in the right order?

1) Did you, as you said, actually use "DVD Decrypt(er)" or, as you should have, "DVDFabHD Decrypter"?


2) What is the region of your original DVD?

I used DvD Decrypter. It is free I am cheep and dont want to pay for DVD Fab HD. Do you know a free DvdFab program?

In case anyone was wondering, I ripped this today with ripit4me, main movie only, and it doesn't seem to have any problems...

What was wrong with other peoples rips? Audio sync issues? I'm not sure what to look for in a bad rip...

Are you sure it didn't scramble the chapters? I tried it with main movie option and the movie was all out of order...

I have now tried it with just main movie, and selected title 10, and although I have not checked the entire film yet, it seems to be the correct choice.

Most, if not all "ripping" programs, when set to "movie-only", automatically select the largest title and, if there are two or more titles of the identical size, they'll select the FIRST one of identical size. Is this the way "G.I. Joe" is structured?

The reason for this is that there really is no way to AUTOMATICALLY determine which of such titles of equal size is actually the main movie.

This was a reasonably failsafe method until the DVD producers started to create dummy entries in the .IFOs...

Yeah, full disc mode thought that there were a LOT of files, something like over 40 GB worth. DVDFab died on it with an error (401, maybe?). Then I noticed how many (obviously bogus) files there were and burned the biggest one. It was the movie with chapters scrambled. I previewed other files until I found the one I thought was correct. FWIW, the movie is 117 minutes, but some of the files are longer than that, so it was fairly easy to narrow down...

I'm trying to rip using dvdfab 6.1.2.5, but it's giving me an error while reading, within the first minute. I was able to do Transformers 2 using the "main movie" with the specified title.

I also tried the "main movie" option, and I get the error before I can even tell it to start ripping.

1) Please state whether you purchased the single disc or two disc version
2) Please state your DVD's region number
3) Please state whether you are using the free version of DVDFab, a purchased version of DVDFab, or a different ripping program
4) Please post the DVD identification number (It's immediately below the barcode on the case jacket)

4) I've got 2 barcode #'s...Original on the jacket number is 097363439240 and then Walmart put their own barcode over the top which is 032429075253

Anyway, like I said, I ripped the main movie only, Title 10. Encoded for iPod, and watched several times. No problems. I was just throwing my 2 cents in, giving a thumbs up to an aging ripper. =)

The number I'm asking for is, as I mentioned immediately below the barcode (The number, is in fact, the barcode number). The ISBN number usually appears above the barcode.

I get a read error, and if I try the main movie only option, I get the read error before I even tell it to start.

I tried an older version of dvdfab last night, and it ran through the entire disc and finished. When I tried to open it in DvdShrink, it gave an error about a missing vob file.

Have you tried playing the disc it ripped? Make sure it is all there and in proper sequence before declaring victory...

It IS number 10 that Emoto mentioned earlier.
After using DVDFab HD 6.0.7.0 to get a copy into the computer, I played the FILE back on DVD Shrink and simultaneously the DVD was played back with CinePlayer and they are both the same. The Chapters are in correct order.

Remember to select IGNORE ALL on the error statement and have patience for the NEXT button to appear.
