Quicktime ruined MPC-HC h264 MOV playback

My video files from my Canon 5D mkII are 1080p MOV h264 files. They played with DVXA in MPC-HC, but now suddenly DVXA is not working and playback is very choppy. I suspect my rescent install of iTunes+Quicktime is to blame.

I cant find anything in the MPC-HC options that seems to help. There must be some way to fix this?!?

Rename to .mp4

Quicktime destroys everything - it should be gotten rid of.

Well it then comes up with an error and playes with DVXA but no sound.

Remux the MOVs to MKVs with MKVToolNix. Then, DirectShow will be able to handle decoding. With QuickTime installed, MOVs run through a QuickTime interface in MPC-HC. I don't know how it all works, but remuxing neatly sidesteps the issue ;)

Renaming also will activate the use of DirectShow. Other method: MPC options -> playback -> formats -> set "quicktime file" to directshow.

No sound is caused by a splitter issue.

Silly statement... Not really... Quicktime for Windows is badly coded, just like every piece of software Apple makes for the Windows platform. I think it's their way of trying to make everyone switch to Macs. :P

Poorly coded in some respects, perhaps - but it certainly doesn't "destroy everything".

(I've had it on various PC systems for years, with no ill effects)
