On the volume settings, under "normalise", there is an option called "regain volume". When hovering the mouse over it it says it is the night mode option.
Do I need to tick both "normalise" and "regain volume"? Or just regain volume?
I want to make the loud noises, like gunshots, etc. lower. But not nessecerily make the lower noises higher.
I am pretty happy with the volume of the movie during most parts of the movie. But when theres lots of action with earthquakes, gunshots, explosions, etc. it gets too much.

Thanks

Without ticking 'Normalise' you won't get Night mode! As simple as that.. Though it is the fault of the audio engineers that conversations are often muffled whilst everything else is amplified multi-fold.

you'd be better off forcing dialogs normalization, you could also use a more professional DX/VST dynamics compression plugin through a winamp2 wrapper...within ffdshow audio, that's what I do ;)

in ffdshow audio there's a "winamp 2" section...input your winamp plugin path, compatible plugins will show up..et voila!

too bad it only works in 16bit, I've asked several ffdshow coders but noone's managed to make it work in 24 so far(even though, it's entirely possible theoritically).

I like OzoneMP(or better Ozone4) to beef things up, you can also use a VST bridge that will allow to use any VST plugin you want, rather handy : http://www.savioursofsoul.de/Christian/?page_id=248

there's many different versions because Christian was kind enough to debug it for me...as ffdshow was rather not friendly when communicating with winamp plugins, but it works rather well now :)
