VLC no longer playing VC-1

I just upgraded from Vista 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit.
Now my VLC will no longer play the video of an mkv file with VC-1.
It plays the audio fine. I've installed the CCCP Codecs pack, but still nothing.
I can play the file with WMP.

Any thoughts? I prefer to use VLC.

VLC doesn't use external codecs, so installing codec packs will have no effect (for the same reason, you're cut off from CUDA/DXVA support when using it, at least for the moment...). Chances are that VC-1 file has some characteristics that libavcodec cannot fully decode yet. You can give users on here a chance to look for obvious incompatibilities by opening the file with MediaInfo's GUI, switching to "Text" view, and posting the output into a codebox in a post in this thread. Alternately or additionally, you can use MKVMergeGUI to cut a representative sample from the file, upload it to Mediafire, and post the link here. If it does turn out to be a new and unusual case, you should follow up by filing bug reports with the VLC and ffmpeg (LAVC) project trackers.

I can do that, but VLC played these files fine before I upgraded. I reninstalled VLC and now it's not playing the video of the files.

1) What version of VLC are you using?

2) Perhaps too obvious a question but, have you selected the "Video" dropdown to see if there is a choice of tracks available?

It's working fine for me unless the VC-1 stream is interlaced. I mean really interlaced, some streams might be flagged as progressive but in fact they are interlaced and VLC can't play those.

These are 1080p video files. .mkv wrapper with VC-1 video.

Brazil2: Did you do anything different to make it play. Mine played fine on a Vista 32. When I went to 64-bit Windows 7, then they quit playing. VLC seems to play .mpg's I have with AVC and mpeg video content

I did nothing special but I'm not using any 64 bit OS though. I never had any problems to play VC-1 streams with VLC as long as they are progressive but interlaced ones don't play in VLC neither in Mplayer neither in MPC-HC so I guess it's a libavcodec issue.

You should provide us a short sample of a non working file so many people with many different systems can test it and report the result.
