Burning VCR Videos to DVD

is it possible to burn movies from your vcr to dvd without a dvd burner, and a dvdrom on your computer? (using only your cd-r, or cd-rw drive)?

Yes that´s possible.
With the thing that it will never be playable on any DVD stand alone player.
DVDit! will be the best program fitting your needs.

You sure about that, I mean as long as the Standalone
player supports the media and the VCD format in itself
there shouldnt be a problem right? Who knows I could be
completely wrong about this but it seems right.

VCD is something very different.

VCR to Computer is easy so far.
Converting to a MPEG2 DVD-Stream get´s harder but it´s the thing that only very few DVD-Standalones play Mini-DVD!!!

Of course you need a DVD-burner to burn DVD´s!!! Otherwise why should there be any special DVD-burner???

But I don`t think it´s worth all that time.
Use SVCD instead. A normal DVD movie will at least take 5 CDRs while a normal movie on SVCD is possible to bring to only 2 CDRs. It don`t think it´s fun to stand up every 15 mins.

A Mini DVD is only "intelligent" if it´s of music videos or other short stuff like that.

Of course you can burn a CRr do be read in a standalone DVD. You only have to make a VCD of your .mpg file, Ahead Nero will do that for you, no problem. Just be sure that you are encoding your VCR capture to MPEG-1 standard.
The only thing you have to check is if your DVD supports to read CDRs if yes you´re on. Oh, BTW nowadays we have very good blanks the ones with silver bottoms that will work even when your DVD really doesn´t oficially accepts CDRs

Sorry...did I misunderstand him?
I thought, he wanted to output in DVD.
Not TO a dvd-player.

My Pioneer DV-444 is able to play VCD/SVCD/DVD. So any output format would work for me.

that´s why we won`t meet with our opinions

well i was origonally talking about dvd format, but vcd or svcd format will work two. i got a question. i want to use nero to burn in svcd, but i cant download the demo to test it out, cuz i cant ever find the server when gozilla starts the download. so is there another program that i can try for burning svcd or a nother place besides nero's official server that i can downoad it?

You shouldn´t use a download manager!!!
Use your browser instead.

Another good burning-program is Instant-CD/DVD from VOB.

Those are the two most recommended programs for operations like this.
But I prefer NERO because it´s much smaller on harddisk.
