Hi,

I am trying to decode an 5.1 ac3 movietrack to 6 mono-wavs for editing (frame conversion and editing to make it fit). After that I am goint to encode it back to ac3 to mux it with ts-muxxer.

Okay, here are my questions:

1. What is the best decoder for eac3to to decode ac3 to 6 mono wavs? eac3to seems to look for nero decoder, which I do not have (I only have the new nero, which obviously doenst work with eac3to).

2. eac3to removes dialog-normalization of -27dB. After editing I am putting the mono wavs back together to a ac3-track. Do I have to set dialog normalization again? I have not seen this option in the encoders.

3. Which AC3-encoder is better: Soft Ecoder (which seems a bit outdated?!) oder Vegas with Dolby Digital ac3-Pro.

Thanks again,

1) Don't ask about the best (rule 12). Eac3to can also decode ac3 with libav.

2) If you want make a Dolby Digital compliant file read the post:
Sticky: GUIDE: How To Properly Encode Dolby Digital Audio (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=56020)
If you don't need make a Dolby Digital compliant file you can put -31 dB to avoid any attenuation when you play the file. This is my recommendation.

3) Don't ask about the best (rule 12). Eac3to/EncWAVtoAC3 can also encode with Aften, not Dolby certified because is free. I don't test commercial software.
