Lossless MKV-editing.

Here we go: Most of the time I use MakeMKV to take the movie off its carrier. My question consists of two parts:

1. If one wants to take out parts of a movie, which software (don´t be platform specific here) is capable in doing a lossless MKV editing?
2. Is Sony Vegas 9 Pro capable of doing so? Throw your (software) recommendations! :)

MKV is a container. All sorts of different video and audio types can go into an MKV file, and the container has practically no relevance in what tools are needed to edit it. What exactly is in yours?

Then why did you ask?

If your MKV files contain MPEG-2, then even Sony Vegas Pro 9 without the optional MPEG-2 plugin cannot handle it.

Glad to hear that you're a user of one of my favorite tools, "MakeMKV" (I've been utilizing and scrutinizing it since its "birth"). Therefore, I'm sure it's obvious to you that , in order to possibly provide meaningful answers to your first question, YOU have to answer a question first - Are you using "MakeMKV" to create MKVs from standard DVDs, HD-DVDs, or BluRay discs?

BTW - (My personal observation/suggestion) The presumed logic to starting a thread in order to seek a solution from the formidable array of knowledgable Doom9 members, as you did here, is that you don't know the answer. Therefore, I'd suggest that when a member poses a question, whether you think it is relevant or not, it would be both appropriate and considerate for you to answer the question, as doing so will more often than not lead down the road to a successful resolution of your initial question.

With regard to whether a specific product (Sony Vegas 9 Pro) can meet your needs, it's pretty much standard operating procedure that the O.P. make the first effort to to research the product at the publisher's/author's website, where most times answers to questions such as your second one are available. If you do this (Your post do not indicate that you have) and still haven't found the answer, then by all means state this and pose your question.

By stating in a subsequent post to this thread that "I´m sure Sony Vegas Pro is able to handle the content as well." after initially posting, "Is Sony Vegas 9 Pro capable of doing so?", I'm sure you can see that this can only cause confusion and make members wonder why you started this thread.
