Especially it doesn't protect you from exploits in all the various plugins/applications that are used to view "remote" content, such as Flash, Adobe Reader, QuickTime and so on :rolleyes:
As a nice example, try to open that PDF in Adobe Reader or even better Foxit:

slightly off topic - Lucid Lynx will be out in 5 days, comes without any antivirus protection - http://www.ubuntu.com/, i think it can serve as a pretty decent desktop (i did play with beta1 and 2 a bit)

I'm very please with ZenOK Free Antivirus (http://antivirusgratis.zenok.com/), a mus have software I would say.
