Problems with reencoding MPEG 2

Hi!

I'm using TMPEGEnc for reencoding my MPEG 2 videostreams, either for setting another bitrate or changing aspect ratio. It always works perfectly well, but the new MPEG 2 videostream shows blank lines. It looks like a worse interlaced movie and I cannot think of what I did wrong with the reencoding.

I know that the videostreams are usually encoded interlaced, but in the original stream I didn't see any blank lines.

what version of TMPGEnc are you using and where is your source material from?

I couldn't fix the problem with TMPEGEnc, but now I'm using ReMPEG for Bitratechanging. So no more bothering about TMPEGEnc. :-)

I don't know if you've noticed, but ReMPEG's encoding quality is not good at all.

Yes, I noticed that the encoding quality of ReMPEG is sometimes really bad. But the problem is that Scenarist NT always chrashes during multiplexing, when I'm using a videostream which I previously reencoded with TMPEG.

I agree that rempeg does a poor job of encoding. I no longer use it period. However tmpgenc is another story. If the encode is crashing Scenarist, I bet its in your settings.

I still don't know which of my settings Scenarist didn't like, but now I've tried to use the inbound DVD (NTSC) template and modiefied it for PAL DVD, and now everything works fine.
