Should I still be using DVD Shrink or is there anything better

I have been using DVD Shrink to rip my DVD's so that I can store just the main film ready for streaming.

Is there anything else that would do this better, or is it still ok to us it just for this process. The quality is more important than size or any fancy bits.

It totally depends on which program YOU like most. That´s truly a choice noone here can force you to make. Be aware that many programs have the ability to do high quality rips nowadays. But for your convinience: I´ve tested MANY and there´s one program I stumbled upon that´s absolutely stunning: HandBrake (www.handbrake.fr).

HandBrake provides an interface that is easy to operate, yet it is a professional program with very powerful features. Extreme high quality rips are no problem at all. Small "secret" handBrake even uses libdvdcss (if installed) to enable ripping when discs are copy protectec (please check the laws in your country BEFORE installing libdvdcss) and (as many people hope) support for libbluray will be imported some day. Give it a try - binaries for all OS are available on their website; for Linux consider installing HandBrake the easy way through the packman repos. Don´t forget to leave a feedback! :)

The quality is more important than size or any fancy bits.Sounds like you're ripping with no compression - which means that, as long as DVD Shrink or any other ripping program can properly rip the DVD ("movie-only" or "full disc"), it will rip a bit-for-bit identical backup (With copy protection removed). Therefore, it would make no difference which ripping program you use.

On the other hand, if an older ripping program, such as DVD Shrink, DVD Decrypter, SmartRipper, RipIt4Me, etc. cannot deal with the (newer) copy protection of a specific DVD, I'd suggest you try (freeware) DVDFab HD Decrypter...

Is there any program with a function similar to "Re-author" in DVDShrink? I'd like to extract part of a title without recompression.

patrick_ the answer to your question is in the quote! :search: (hint: dvdfab, anydvd, makemkv, dvd rebuilder) ... or of course you can still use dvd shrink with anydvd to handle decryption!
