View Full Version : Poor deinterlacing quality when using Microsoft codecs

I have a HTPC based around GeForce 8300 motherboard and at the moment it has Windows 7 RC x64 installed. The problem is that when ever video content is interlaced Microsoft codec uses piss-poor BOB deinterlacing that looks really bad. You can clearly see the lines shaking (looks really bad in TV channels that do not use DVB subtitles) and it strains eyes. Is there any way to force HW pixel-adaptive deinterlacer for Microsoft codecs or some other tricks how to get better deinterlacing quality?

Am I the only one who thinks that Windows Media Center (and Microsoft codecs in general) deinterlacing quality just sucks in Windows 7 when using GeForce card?

If you're using the stock drivers, you'd probably want to upgrade to their newer versions, either from Windows Update or from the nVidia site.

I'm not quite sure if this is NVIDIA's fault or Microsoft's and I'm not sure if this is fixed in RTM version but I doubt it since one system with Vista Home Premium has poor deinterlacing quality when watching MPEG2 content using Microsoft's own codec. There has to be some switch in registry to force pixel adaptive ({6CB69578-7617-4637-91E5-1C02DB810285}) deinterlacing.

Well i have exactly the same thing but with all the codecs and windows xp instead of 7. I am using an ION mobo from Zotac.

Till now i found no way to force pixel adaptive over registry and if i had to take a guess i would say NVIDIA drivers are the one to blame.

If you find a way to force pixel adaptive please report it here.

I am trying. It's weird that there's not much info available about this.

I just upgraded my Vista system (with GeForce 9800 GTX+) to Windows 7 Pro x64 and it looks like they have fixed this problem. Deinterlacing quality is just fine now. Though, I'm not 100% sure if it uses pixel-adaptive or BOB vertical stretch.
