I have a friend who is having some dv footage converted to avi. He wants the highest quality possible. How much storage is he looking at 10 hours of video assuming uncompressed and full resolution.

You can store full quality DV in a DV AVI. DV uses something like 3.6-3.7 MB/sec, so that would take up about 130 GB. Ouch. You might want to recompress the video to another format like MPEG-2.
