MeGUI: undersized output (XviD)

hi

i have a weird problem with megui. i used megui 0.2.6 and updated everything except the first three ones (data core libs) so my xvid_encraw was always uptodate and megui stayed 0.2.6. everything worked fine until i recently reinstalled windows. i installed the new megui 0.3.1 and now a lot of movies become undersized although the xvid_encraw is the same. it must be some megui problem but i am totally clueless :confused:

this is what the log says

the sticky about the undersized/oversized files didnt help me because it says it has nothing to do with the encoding front end but since i used the same xvid_encraw version it must be some problem with megui.

Not a MeGUI problem. XviD is saturated. Use a higher resolution, fewer b-frames, etc.

and how do you explain that it works with megui 0.2.6? today i tested it with the same profile, xvid_encraw and same movie. 0.3.1 gets about ~1380kb/s and this is from the 0.2.6 log:

desired video bitrate of this job: 1495 kbit/s - obtained video bitrate (approximate): 1499 kbit/s

it cant be a problem of the xvid_encraw :/

Post the full text of both AVS Scripts and both MeGUI logs. Chances are one of the profiles changed (either due to MeGUI updates or your own config) and as a result one uses more complex options.

both times with xvid_encraw 2008-12-04 (1.2.1+vaq) and same avs script
i cant find any different encoding settings...


but it seems that megui 0.3.1 doesnt use any Q1 frames:

In your "megui 0.3.1.1056" log, the first pass encoding parameters don't include your zone settings, so the stats file from the first pass assumes lower quantizers for the end of the video.

hm thats a good point. i did some testing and megui 0.3.1.1056 never includes the zone parameters in the 1st pass. maybe a bug?

I haven't really used zones in MeGUI but I did a test by putting zone configurations in the custom command line field and MeGUI used it in both passes.

Sorry for being such a noob. I already found the custom command line field but I don't know how I can utilize this for the 1st pass.

I have the same problem as well, I havent used MeGUI in a while, after upgrading I am having issues using xvid_encraw. I never seen N-Frames (NVOPS I believe) in my encodes. I dont have packed bit stream set and not sure if this is the issue. Any help on this is appreciated.

Oddly enough, I'm getting oversized output on an animated source that should be ridiculously easy to compress (1 frame in 5-10 is motion), especially using the MeGUI "2 Pass HQ" profile.

I suspect, given the number of error reports around here, that there's a problem with xvid_encraw...I'll run some further tests tomorrow and see if there are particularly problematic/OK sources.

One more, and new, info related to Xvid and undersized file: VAQ for Xvid introduced by DarkShikari last year.
Gives 10 to 15% less size (or more) depending on source for no to nearly no depreciation.
