Hello.

I have just started using Megui and I am a bit confused about the film setting with x264.

Does using this remove grain and a touch of detail making file sizes smaller, or do the file sizes become bigger?

I was assuming it simplified the image and made encoding efficiency greater.

I have read conflicting comments and I would like to get it right before using the setting.

Thanks in advance for any help...

No, it is optimized for film, meaning grain retention.

It tweaks the psy-rd a little higher to retain more "detail"

Thanks. I was hoping it was something of a smoothing filter of sorts.

Thanks for the clarification.:thanks:

If you want to smooth details, use an external denoiser.

The only thing x264 does is encode video. Beyond the --nr parameter, x264 does absolutely no image processing beyond the standard encoding routine.
