It all started with the following problem:
I have an .mkv video file (with AVC/H.264 video codec) and want to cut/delete some parts out of it. I tried to find a tool for this task but was not succesful until now.
If I load for example this video into Avidemux a popup appears with the following warning:
"If the file is using B-frames as reference it can lead to a crash or stuttering.
Avidemux can use another mode which is safe but YOU WILL LOSE FRAME ACCURACY.
Do you want to use that mode?"
Now I can choose between buttons "Use safe mode" and "Cancel".
If I choose "Use safe mode" I cannot position the slider AND view which is exactly the current scene in the movie. Only pixel blocks are visible. So this mode is completely unusable for cut & paste operations.
On the other hand, when I select "Cancel" then I can position the slider on keyframes and see the current scene. But if I (after deleting some parts) save the remaining video this resulting video is out of sync. That means audio track is about 500-800 ms ahead of video.
This is crap as well.
So I ask you: What should I do?
Is the missing keyframe positioning a defect of MKV container architecture or a defect of AVC/H.264 or a bug in Avidemux?
Are there any other tools which let me cut & paste chunks from .mkv videos WITH VISIBLE scenes?
Or do I really have to re-encode the whole movie to Divx/Xvid ?
