View Full Version : Cant join two avi files

I recorded this two part special, and just encoded them separately(?), and thought i would just be able to append the second to the first in nandub, because i use the same settings on both of them (video and audio). But when i tried to append the second part i got this error:
"Cannot append segment: The audio streams have different data formats"
How can that be?
I want to be able to join them without having to reencode any of them.

audio is encoded in variable frame rate
if you want to use nandub/virtualdubmod/virtualdub you must reencode audio in cbr mode
OR you can use AviDemux , it can join avi with different audio sample

i tried with avidemux now, the result i got was that both the audio and the video "glitches", like every 100 frames on the video is duplicated, and some minor soundglitches, lite every 4 seconds, and both streams are set to Copy, suggestion?

that isn't nice.
you will fall back to first option (reencode audio)
or use the obscure and partial japanese aviutil (iirc)

Hi!
Please load the first file into GSpot and post a screencapture back here. Then do the same for the the second file.

Hi,
There was this related thread not so long ago:

Mp3packer seems also able to convert VBR mp3 to CBR; see:

Yes, the audio is at two different sampling rates (132kbps and 127kbps). One way you can fix this as follows:
For EACH of the two files, do the following:
1) Load file into VirtualDub
2) Set "Video" to "Direct Stream Copying"
3) Set "Audio" to "Full Processing Mode"
4) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Compression"
5) Select, for example, 48,000Hz
6) From the "Audio" dropdown menu, select "Conversion"
7) If necessary, put a checkmark next to "Display all formats"
8) Select your preferred sampling rate from amongst the, for example, 48,000Hz .MP3 rates listed
9) Click on "OK"
10) Save with a new filename

Well... 48,000Hz is same at both files, but yes they are vbr, so the kbps will differ, its like buzzqw said, need to reencode the audio to cbr to get them "joinable" in nandub.

RE-read Line 8 in what I've suggested - That's where you'll select the SAMPLING rate (e.g. 128kbps for each .AVI) from the list of available sampling rates at 48,000Hz (frequency)
