I'm trying to break in avisynth, previously using mostly ffdshows denoise3d, yadif, msharpen and SPP played back in MPC-HC.

You see, I'm a musician and I have a collection of live performances by friends and myself from various sources, DV & VHS-c converted to DVD or even worse, low quality VMA, source lost:mad: MJPEG from digicams & cameraphones & analogue TV recordings.

Rather than post clips for for each case I'd appreciate some general pointers and methods to get me started for plugins fast enough to view in realtime on a dual core PC viewing but also slower ones for more difficult/important recordings.

Also since I intend to back these up as H264 (x264 CRF18) I'd like a recommendation for removing noise but keeping real texture.

So far I've tried fft3dgpu via ffdshow and which was impressive for the speed and quality. I also bought vReaveal on a whim, It's been good for compression artifacts and noise without removing detail but definitely gets traily at high settings.

Nobody is going to give you "general pointers". Post source clips if you want advice.

Well, the question in the title is "what's HOT", meaning "what's currently technically good and popular" for the sources mentoned and common problems associated with them. Although I can't argue about posting source clips for advice....

Well, nothing is hot for various sources. There is some popular filters, but they should be configured properly to be hot. But if you still want to know - post one sample. Someone (probably)will suggest what's hot for this particular sample. Feel free to use that for anything else. At least there will be possibility that it will be hot enough for some of your other sources...
