I have been looking for a program to split some HD MKV files I have with no loss in quality, and I was recommended to try avidemux. The program seems to recognise the MKV file, but there is no audio during playback.

My main problem however is that when trying to extract a scene from the video, it starts to save it but instantly finishes, resulting in no outputted video. I have set it to copy video and audio and set the format to MKV.

Any help would be appreciated.

Set Audio output in Avidemux to "Win32"; the default setting doesn't produce sound on Windows.

Also, get the split times in Avidemux or MPC-HC and then use MKVMerge to split; it'll automatically cut on the nearest keyframe, obviating the need for Avidemux's occasionally buggy frame accuracy on H.264.

How do you actually cut the segment you want in MKVMerge?

Global -> Splitting in MKVMergeGUI, need to know desired split times beforehand.

Is there any way to set it so that it only produces the part you want, rather than 3 files that include the part you want and 2 extra files that are before and after this?

I think Moritz Bunkus is working on that currently. But just discard the other two.
