I have a Matshita DVD-RAM UJ-851S USB device, which gets it's power from a special USB power cable. Separate to it's data USB cable, this cable has a USB plug at one end and a fairly standard DC power supply end at the other. Thus the drive can also use DC power supplies to supply it.

However, nowhere in the documentation for the drive does it give the power requirements. Any suggestions?

It would use a max. of 1000mA/5V, as this is the maximum current 2 USB ports (1-data port, 2-power port) could give, without being endangered.
