Too much megabyte wasted...

Hello people!
Here my problem:
When I use avc2avi for convert *.264 to a x264 the file increase of 3 mb size.
Then, when i use virtualdub for mux audio AAC with video .avi (fourcc x264) the file increase of 1 mb size.
At end, when i cut video (credits are deleted) the file increase of 2 mb size.

So, there are 6 mb wasted. How i can resolve this problem??

P.S. I done this because mp4player and mobile phone don't read my mp4 files. I add also that i mux AAC file and .264 with mp4box.
So, I have a file .mp4 with codec video of avc1 and codec audio aac.

You better use mkv instead of avi!

AVI container has large overhead,
You can try XMedia Recode as it has many presets for mobile phones and other devices.

Okay, fine. Then use the MP4 container. Problem solved.

with XMedia Recode i have a video of avc1 video codec and aac audio codec, is identical...

I have another question..
but..is avc1 of mp4box, identical to avc1 of mkv (in command line outputfile is *.mkv)?

Pretty sure that mkv has a lower overhead than mp4, but both are low and the difference should be very small (a few kB per file or so). I'm on my work machine and don't have access to files to test this at the moment.

Muxer alone is probably the most important factor.

Just compare lavf vs libeml, libmatroska (mkvmerge) vs gpac filesizes by remuxing.
Lavf's overhead is usually "much" bigger (includes mkv and mp4).

Er, are you still in the 70's ??? 6 Mb ??? I bought a 4 Gigabyte SD card for my phone the other day and it was cheap. I think you're wasting your time.

I get overhead of 2.3MB with mp4 container for 1:26:22 movie length. Will try with mkv container.

I guess everyone value 6MB differently depending on their usage. So I think you should cool down a bit mate.
