Retain original blu-ray chapters when converting to mkv?

Hi

Been searching the forums for some advice but could not find exactly what I'm looking for. I have a couple of issues if anyone could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

I want to be able to retain the original chapters in my blu-ray discs when I convert them to mkv.

I'm currently using:

AnyDVD HD to rip the whole disk
Ripbot to select the main movie, audio and subtitle
SupRip to make the subtitles for ripbot

If I try to skip chapters, at most, it skips 1min at a time but normally it is around 30secs. Once I start to skip, the audio and video become out of synch. Some movies do not synch back up.

I am watching the movies on Vista 64 bit in Media Center. I have stored the films on a network drive and locally on my HTPC but I cannot get rid of the synch problems.

The process I use is the extract the chapter file from the Blu-ray disc using eac3to. I then create a x264 qp file using qpfilegen. Encode using the created qp file to ensure there are i-frames at the chapter points. Mux the video, audio, and chapter file to mkv using mkvmerge.

Just tried MakeMKV and its a lot faster than Ripbot!! Only issue is the chapters are the still only 30secs and haven't retained the original chapter settings. I can't seem to turn on the subtitles either. Will keep trying as this seems like a good program to use!

Only issue is the chapters are the still only 30secs and haven't retained the original chapter settings.I can assure you that "MakeMKV" is only capable of obtaining the ORIGINAL chapters from your ORIGINAL BluRay source - unless, of course, you or someone else has done something to alter the ORIGINAL BluRay before you used "MakeMKV" (again NO need for "AnyDVD").

What is the title of the BluRay disc you converted using ONLY "MakeMKV"?

Ahh!! That would be why. I have used the files on my HDD from AnyDVD!! I'm trying a blu-ray disc now, so hopefully this will work properly.

Back again!! Same issue with the chapter settings. Still only skips 30secs at a time. :-( And also audio and video go out of synch after skipping a few times. I can't seem to get it back in synch!!

Also, can't turn subtitles on and off at all.

Is it an original, commercial BluRay?

Does the original source exhibit the same behavior?

I used Transporter 3 and I used only MakeMKV. AnyDVD was running in the background, so I'm going to stop that now and try another movie, The Incredible Hulk, next. Should have the results soon.

It is an original, commercial disk.

Tried the original disk and it works fine, chapters and subtitles.

OK, just tried The Incredible Hulk without anydvd running in the background. It still hasn't retained the chapter info, still skips 30secs.
And cannot get the subtitles to work again!!

Maybe it's the player that isn't honoring the chapter marks. Lets start from the beginning.

1) Rip the disc using AnyDVD.
2) Extract the main movie, audio, subtitles, and chapter marks using eac3to. If you want a GUI try the "HD Streams Extractor" in MeGUI.
3) Mux the video, audio, subtitles and chapter marks to mkv using mkvmerge.

How are you playing the file?

I understand you are trying to help but I also tried it without anydvd running in the background and it still did not work as you can see.

setarip_old - I do appreciate the help and advice you gave. I just didn't realise that I needed to exit anydvd. I thought you meant do not rip it to the hard disk using anydvd.
